Since it was a beautiful day, I took a “Jeep Journey” to Serpent Mound. I remember visiting this site when I was in the 4th or 5th grade as a field trip. Talk about a place that makes you wonder… (check out my slide show! See the “link” under Jeep Journeys)
Students are helping me build a list of suggested books. Look under the “Good Reads” section.
So I love to read. Pretty much anything, although I tend to be drawn to a good story I can get lost in. A few weeks ago Mr. Weber dragged in into Wal-mart where I passed a display of paperback books. How could I resist? I picked up a copy of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo (also wrote Because of Winn Dixie and The Tale of Despereaux). Turns out I enjoyed it much more than I thought! And I made lots of connections to other texts I’ve read (mostly to students).
Well the beauty of being a teacher…I can read children’s books and say that I’m “doing research” for students. Partially true, but the reality is that I end up loving most of the children’s treasures I uncover! They are great quick escapes for me.
Here’s my dilemma…there is NEVER enough time to share all of the great books I come across in my classroom. NEVER. But thank goodness for technology! And the concept of blogging! I’ll be building a new section for student sharing: Good reads!
You can find me on Twitter Heidi Weber@mrsweberread
My goal will be to provide quick updates or share fun moments from the classroom. Maybe even a “guest” student tweeter as well…
