Back from #ILA15 in St. Louis, MO

I just returned from the International Literacy Conference and am so excited to share what I learned and did with GREEN ROOM families! The experience kicked off with Shaquille O’Neal speaking about how he values education and that he went on to earn his Masters in Business and Doctorate in Education. As a visual learner, Shaq confirmed that what we do in the GREEN ROOM through ‘reading’ images is important (he confessed that he is very much a visual learner!) IMG_0402

My 3rd graders last spring read Clementine by Sara Pennypacker (and this year my 3rd graders will read it in the fall) SO how cool that I met Sara Pennypacker in person!

I listened to 5 other authors too (and got autographed books from 2). They will stay a mystery until we get back to school, but here’s a peek: IMG_0432 IMG_0433 IMG_0434 IMG_0435 IMG_0437

I “bragged” on us with a poster session all about what we do in the GREEN ROOM:   IMG_0439 And I got to teach other teachers about the way we learn in our classroom with technology:   Screen Shot 2015-07-21 at 11.37.35 AM FullSizeRender (2) FullSizeRender (3)

Of course I saw some great things in the city… will do a slide show of that later… but one of the coolest was a mural in my hotel:   (Look closely! Can you figure out what is wrong with it?!)FullSizeRender (4)This was the view from my room: IMG_0484 IMG_0383

Now I learned new things too! I may be a teacher, but I never stop learning myself! I can’t wait to bring in some outstanding primary sources and share some of the things I came home with: IMG_0499 I would say I’m having a great summer vacation!
